The Way
We Were .
in 1940
James Daniel Varey. Jim was born in Toronto "the City ot
Churches," but at the time of conversion he was not aware
that there is onlv one Bible common to every dcnommalion.
In vouth he was a proverbial rolling stone, wandering south-
waid to Florida where he attended High School. Upon his
subsequent return to Canada, Jim was married, and to-
gether the voung couple were converted. During his Loll.-ge
vears he has plaved in the Orchestra and has worked as an
outboard motor mechanic. We shall long remember Jims
livelv interest in theological discussions. In future service,
we know that in everv action he will seek to glorify Chnst
in obedience to "Whatsoever ye do in word or deed do all
in the name of the Lord Jesus."

Peace! perfect peace! in this dark ivorld of sin?
The blood of Jesus ichispers peace within.
Peace! perfect peace! by thronging duties pressed?
To do the tcill of Jesus, this is rest.
Peace! perfect peace! with sorrows surging round?
On Jesus' bosotn naught but calm is found.
Peace! perfect peace! with loved ones far away?
In Jesus' keeping we are safe, and they.
Peace! perfect peace! our future all ^inknoicn?
Jesus ^ve know, and He is on the throne.
Peace! perfect peace! death shadoicing us and ours?
Jesus has vanquished death and all its powers.
It is enough: earth's struggles soon shall cease.
And Jesus call to heaven's perfect peace.
Rt. Rev. E. H. Bickersteth, D.D.
Grace Isabelle Woodcock. Grace was born in Brantford, but
early in her life her family moved to Peterborough where
she received her education. The Master's call, "Follow Me,"
was accepted by Grace and within a few years He led her
to T.B.C. We. her classmates, have learned to love her and
are glad to claim her as one of our number. Grace has defi-
nite convictions which she is not afraid to express, not even
during class i»friods. Grace served on our Hospital Com-
mittee, but her greatest contribution has been with her
sweet soprano voice. Now she is anticipating further pre-
paration for service in the foreign field. The song, "God
Holds the Key of All Unknown," is precious to Grace be-
cause she knows the One who holds the key.

Penning at timeless philosophical
epitaph is like decorating an old room.
At first one is pleased with the results,
but later on the room loses its bril-
liance. It's a lot like life. .At times its
beauty fades into insignificance like the
dash on a tombstone (1964-7) .\t other
times it is an unending trail unfolding
into eternity.

Four years is over wow! HTiar have I
learned? Submit to God in everything
you go through and He will do some
awesome things in your life. I found He
has a purpose for each of us and He
wants us to give ourselves to Him and
He will fulfill it. Thanks to OBC
You've been part of that learning

OBC has stretched me in several ways.
It has challenged me to study to have
sound biblical beliefs. It gave me the
chance to make the 3 best friends of my
life. .As well. I twice ran for student
council positions vs one candidate each
time but lost both times: I have been
hailed "The King of Pastel", however,
without even whispering my intention

WHOSE JOB IS IT?
This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody,
Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done
and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure Somebody
would do it. Anybody could have done it. but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that
Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed
Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

resolutions for the next
school year
pick one
This year, I won't disturb the class by whispering silly
and unimportant notes to my friends - I'll do it using
sign language and by learning how to read lips.
Last year I resolved to be punctual to all my classes.
This year I resolve to look in a dictionary to see what
punctual means.
My teacher says I need to work on my writing skills,
so I resolve to spend lots more time writing - writing
notes to the new student who sits in the fourth row,
that is.
This year, I resolve to stay on top of all my work -
even if it means sitting on my books.

Well, here it is . . . The final product. This is our yearbook.
MAXAIPA 1990.
You may know that "MAXAIPA" means sword, hence our
swordsmen sports teams. What you might not know is how to pro-
nounce it. The "x" should be pronounced as "k", and the "p"
should be pronounced as "r". The word would look like
MAKAIRA if spelled as it sounds.
I would like to thank the people who helped put the yearbook
together. Special thanks to Jan Blok who helped us keep our
finances straight, and thanks to Krystyne and Frank who gave of
their time sacrificially to help when deadlines were due . . . and past
due. (Now I know why they call them deadlines.)
Let me share a verse for all those who had a part in MAXAIPA
•90.
"Not with eye service as men pleasers, but as the servants of
Christ doing the will of God from the heart. ' '
Eph. 6:6

The Lord gave me the strength I needed when
I was weary to continue working on this book.
Even after late nights, missing pictures and dis-
appearing pens we finished this book. It has
been a great and interesting year.
I'd like to say a special thanks to all those who
helped to keep me somewhat sane. And a very
special thanks to John, Frank, and Brenda for
all the work they have put in. You guys were
great.
